Clinic

We went to the spina bifida clinic on Friday and it went very well. Here is a run down of the people we saw:

Occupational Therapist- She did not observe any delays.
Physical Therapist- She affirmed what we are working on at home is appropriate.

Dietitian- No concerns
Neurologist- No concerns
Social worker- Encouraged getting involved in an on-line support network but thought we were a 'healthy' family.

Orthopaedic- She is not worried about scoliosis. Whitney's left leg turns in at the hip and it may need to be surgically corrected down the road. She wants us to get a stander for her soon. We also were able to retire Whitney's night time AFO's!

Physiatrist- No concerns

I am so thankful we can have all of these appointments in one day. The wonderful thing is that 3 of them wanted to see us back in 6 months so we are able to do it in one day again. It makes life so much easier.

We are currently in need of a used stander for Whitney. If you know of any laying around we would love to put it to good use.

Glad you got such a good report and that your family is "healthy" :) We will pray that Whitney will continue to make good progress and that she will get her stander real soon so that she can amaze them in this too. With love & prayers- VJ & Becky Verduin & family

Glad to hear that Whitney is doing so well. My son is outgrowing his stander, and we have a larger/expandable one on order. I wish I could pass his smaller one on to you, but it was made to his measurements, and wouldn't fit another child properly.

this organization is in the N Chicago area... they loan equipment to people for short and long-term periods. They may have contacts for similar groups in your area. I know that many of the state SBAs have buy/sell/trade listings, as well. Just some thoughts. :)

what is a stander?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on the stander... I talked to our PT yesterday and she said that there may be a possibility that the stander would work for you, if you have someone who is able to make any needed modifications. It was made for Josiah when he was about a year, and, even with it being expandable, he has outgrown it - so it really depends on how tall Whitney is. A part of me wishes to keep it to remember, but I need to forget sentimentality, or we will be accumulating a bunch of outgrown equipment! lol

Other than Whitney's size, a couple of things to keep in mind would be that it is not beautiful (no bells or whistles, but it does the job... could use a more attractive paint job) and that we will need it until we get our new stander (no word on when that could be... hopefully within the next couple of months, but we really don't know.)

So... you may want to keep looking around to see if you can find something right away, and keep ours as a "plan b." Unless there's no hurry - we can just wait.

Let me know what you would like to do... any comments left on my blog must be approved before they are posted, so, I will be sure to not post any messages that have personal information.
